How to Delete Your Account Data and Remove Meta Platform Access
This guide walks you through permanently deleting your data from BotPenguin and removing BotPenguin's access from your connected Meta platforms (WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook).
Overview
This guide covers the full data deletion process across two parts: deleting your account and data from the BotPenguin platform, and separately removing BotPenguin's connected access on Meta's platforms (WhatsApp Business, Instagram, and Facebook). By the end of this guide, your BotPenguin account will be permanently closed and BotPenguin will no longer have access to your connected WhatsApp number, Instagram account, or Facebook Page.
Before You Begin
Complete the following before starting this guide:
You must have admin access to your BotPenguin account
You must have access to the Meta Business Manager for the business portfolio connected to your WhatsApp number (if applicable)
You must have admin access to the Instagram and/or Facebook Page connected to BotPenguin (if applicable)
Skipping prerequisites may cause errors mid-way through the process. Complete all items above before proceeding.
How It Works
Deleting your data starts with deleting your account on BotPenguin. Separately, for any channel you had connected — WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook — you'll also need to disconnect BotPenguin's access on Meta's side, since deleting your BotPenguin account does not automatically remove Meta's platform-level connections. If you didn't connect a particular channel, you can skip that part.
Delete your BotPenguin account first. Then, only for the channels you had connected, disconnect access on Meta's side — WhatsApp, Instagram, and/or Facebook. If you never connected a particular channel, you can skip that part.
Steps
Part 1: Delete Your Account on BotPenguin
Log in to your BotPenguin account.

Click the More icon, then click Accounts.
Under Accounts, go to the My Accounts section, then select the Accounts subtab.

In the Accounts subtab, locate the fourth option, Delete User Data, and click Delete Account Permanently. A dropdown will appear with a Delete Account button — click it.

A confirmation modal will appear. Complete the following inside it:
Provide a platform rating
Select a reason for deleting your account from the options shown
Click Request Delete Account

Type DELETE MY ACCOUNT (in capital letters) in the text box provided, and check the box confirming you understand this action is permanent and cannot be reversed. Then click Request to Delete Account.

Your deletion request is sent to BotPenguin and your account will be permanently closed.
Part 2: Disconnect WhatsApp Access on Meta
Only complete this part if you had a WhatsApp chatbot connected.
Go to business.facebook.com and log in.

Click the dropdown on the left-hand side, then click the gear icon on the business portfolio that the WhatsApp number was connected to.

On the left-hand side, click WhatsApp Accounts, then search for the relevant WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) — either by name or by WABA ID.

Scroll down and open WhatsApp Manager.

Locate your phone number in the list, then click the delete icon on the right-hand side of that number.

A message will confirm the number is being deleted — this may take a few minutes to process. Click Complete to finish the deletion process.

Part 3: Disconnect Instagram Access on Meta
Only complete this part if you had an Instagram chatbot connected.
Go to your Instagram account and open Settings.

Inside Settings, go to Website Permissions.

Under Website Permissions, go to Apps and Websites. You will see sections listing apps that have access to your account.

Find the application connected to your Instagram Account, click Remove, and confirm removal of the application from your Instagram account.

You have successfully removed BotPenguin'w Application from your instagram account!
Part 4: Disconnect Facebook Page Access on Meta
Only complete this part if you had a Facebook chatbot connected.
Go to your Facebook Page.
On the upper right-hand side, click the Settings icon, then go to Settings & Privacy → Settings.

3. Go to Page Setup, then go to Messenger Conversation Routing.

The currently connected application will be shown as the Default Routing App. Click the three dots (⋮) next to it, then click Remove.

Verification
After completing the steps above, confirm the following:
Your BotPenguin account no longer shows as active / login is no longer possible
The phone number no longer appears under WhatsApp Manager in Meta Business Manager
BotPenguin no longer appears under Apps and Websites on your Instagram account
BotPenguin no longer appears as the Default Routing App under Messenger → Conversation Routing on your Facebook Page
If any of the above checks fail, refer to the Troubleshooting section below.
Best Practices
💡 Only complete the Meta parts for the channels you actually had connected (WhatsApp, Instagram, and/or Facebook) — deleting your BotPenguin account alone does not remove Meta-side access for those channels.
⚠️ Once you confirm account deletion by typing "DELETE MY ACCOUNT," this action cannot be reversed.
🚀 Complete the Meta-side disconnection steps before or shortly after requesting BotPenguin account deletion, so access is fully revoked on both ends without delay.
Troubleshooting
Issue: The Delete Account option is not visible under Accounts
Solution: Confirm you are logged in with admin access and are not impersonating another user. Only admins can access account deletion.
Issue: The phone number does not disappear from WhatsApp Manager immediately after deletion
Solution: Deletion can take a few minutes to process on Meta's side. Wait and refresh the page before retrying.
Issue: The BotPenguin app does not appear under Instagram's Apps and Websites list
Solution: The connection may have been made via the linked Facebook Page instead. Check Facebook Page → Messenger → Conversation Routing for the connected app.
FAQs
Do I need to disconnect Meta access separately if I delete my BotPenguin account?
Yes. Deleting your BotPenguin account only removes your data from BotPenguin's systems. You must separately disconnect WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook access through Meta Business Manager or the respective platform settings.
How long does BotPenguin account deletion take?
Once submitted, your deletion request is sent to BotPenguin and your account will be permanently closed.
Can I recover my account after requesting deletion?
No. Once you confirm by typing "DELETE MY ACCOUNT" and submit the request, the action is permanent and cannot be reversed.
Will deleting my WhatsApp number from WhatsApp Manager affect my personal WhatsApp account?
No. Deleting the number from WhatsApp Manager only removes it from the WhatsApp Business Platform/API connection. It does not delete your personal WhatsApp account or chat history.
Who can perform these removal steps on Meta's platforms?
You must have admin access to the relevant Meta Business Portfolio, Instagram account, or Facebook Page to complete these steps.
