# How to Delete Your Account Data and Remove Meta Platform Access

### Overview

This guide covers the full data deletion process across two parts: deleting your account and data from the BotPenguin platform, and separately removing BotPenguin's connected access on Meta's platforms (WhatsApp Business, Instagram, and Facebook). By the end of this guide, your BotPenguin account will be permanently closed and BotPenguin will no longer have access to your connected WhatsApp number, Instagram account, or Facebook Page.

***

### Before You Begin

Complete the following before starting this guide:

* You must have admin access to your BotPenguin account
* You must have access to the Meta Business Manager for the business portfolio connected to your WhatsApp number (if applicable)
* You must have admin access to the Instagram and/or Facebook Page connected to BotPenguin (if applicable)

Skipping prerequisites may cause errors mid-way through the process. Complete all items above before proceeding.
{% endhint %}

### How It Works

Deleting your data starts with deleting your account on BotPenguin. Separately, for any channel you had connected — WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook — you'll also need to disconnect BotPenguin's access on Meta's side, since deleting your BotPenguin account does not automatically remove Meta's platform-level connections. If you didn't connect a particular channel, you can skip that part.

Delete your BotPenguin account first. Then, only for the channels you had connected, disconnect access on Meta's side — WhatsApp, Instagram, and/or Facebook. If you never connected a particular channel, you can skip that part.
{% endhint %}

### Verification

After completing the steps above, confirm the following:

* Your BotPenguin account no longer shows as active / login is no longer possible
* The phone number no longer appears under WhatsApp Manager in Meta Business Manager
* BotPenguin no longer appears under **Apps and Websites** on your Instagram account
* BotPenguin no longer appears as the Default Routing App under Messenger → Conversation Routing on your Facebook Page

{% hint style="info" icon="lightbulb" %}
If any of the above checks fail, refer to the Troubleshooting section below.
{% endhint %}

### Best Practices

> 💡 Only complete the Meta parts for the channels you actually had connected (WhatsApp, Instagram, and/or Facebook) — deleting your BotPenguin account alone does not remove Meta-side access for those channels.

> ⚠️ Once you confirm account deletion by typing "DELETE MY ACCOUNT," this action cannot be reversed.

> 🚀 Complete the Meta-side disconnection steps before or shortly after requesting BotPenguin account deletion, so access is fully revoked on both ends without delay.

### Troubleshooting

<details>

<summary><strong>Issue:</strong> The Delete Account option is not visible under Accounts</summary>

**Solution:** Confirm you are logged in with admin access and are not impersonating another user. Only admins can access account deletion.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Issue:</strong> The phone number does not disappear from WhatsApp Manager immediately after deletion</summary>

**Solution:** Deletion can take a few minutes to process on Meta's side. Wait and refresh the page before retrying.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Issue:</strong> The BotPenguin app does not appear under Instagram's Apps and Websites list</summary>

**Solution:** The connection may have been made via the linked Facebook Page instead. Check Facebook Page → Messenger → Conversation Routing for the connected app.
